Worsley sits out on the eastern edge of our patch, where Wigan gives way to Salford, and it is one of the smartest villages around here. It grew up around the Bridgewater Canal, and the old heart of it by the Green and the village still carries that history in the buildings, black-and-white mock-Tudor frontages, timbered gables and tall period villas, a good many of them inside a conservation area.
